Treatments for menopause and joint pain

Phytosterols are found only in plants and they seem to have some health-promoting effects in the case of menopause and joint pain.

Peruvian Bark also contains alkaloids such as quinine that has been found to be very useful in the prevention of leg cramps, especially during night. Leg cramps in postmenopausal women are quite common. The main causes for this are the use of tobacco as well as inactivity of the legs. Hence attention to calcium and magnesium intake is important and is helpful in the case of menopause and joint pain. Using the herb such as Peruvian Bark is much safer than quinine besides being more effective, but using very large doses over an extended period of time is surely not recommended.

Essential oils can also help in the case of menopause and joint pain. A warm footbath by adding a few drops of the essential oil of peppermint or rosemary just before bed can really help. Black haw or St. John's wort helps in preventing and relieving muscle cramps.

Besides these herbal remedies, visualization, as well as swimming in warm water, moxibustion or even acupuncture can help greatly for menopause and joint pain. A more modern equivalent today of acupuncture is known as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation.

The elimination of certain foods also can help greatly. Sugar in foods such aspotatoes, tomatoes, eggplant as well as peppers, should be avoided. Citrus fruits, with the exception of lemon and grapefruit besides dairy products, with the exception of plain yogurt with active culture should be avoided. Also, do not take in meat including beef, pork, and lamb. Rather, other sources of protein such as chicken, fish and beans can be included as they are less likely to promote inflammation in the case of menopause and joint pain. These are safe and effective remedies.
